2009-2010

The Quiltmaker and her Granddaughter
Fiber Art Dolls& Mixed Media Installation
15” x 15” x 19” (cloth, paperclay, wire armature, wood, raffia)

My Grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude James, made her transition from this world in 1989 at the age of 92. I was privileged to have her presence at my birth, and to be by her side in her last moments on this earth. In between, she gave many gifts. Among them: how to help things grow, how to cook, a love of old time gospel hymns, common sense (although not always evident in my behavior) and how to make art from scraps of cloth.

Wonderful to see new art work from you Janice. I did see this on facebook and thought that is was full of love and very strong. I have a new thing on my blog that shows when a favorite blogger updates. It's pretty cool. Wishing you well. Mary Lou
